A haven of peace and tranquillity offering stunning collections of trees and shrubs set in a historic landscape created in 1836.
The Gardens are listed by English Heritage as a Grade II site and contain a number of listed buildings, including the spectacular glass pavilions. A restoration programme is reinstating much of the original Victorian design, whilst rejuvenating the plant collections and adapting the Gardens for modern-day needs.
Garden tours are held every few weeks and led by a member of the restoration team. The Gardens are popular during the summer for open air cultural events and art exhibitions but are ideal for picnicking and relaxing at any time of the year. The Curators house serves lunches and light refreshments in the daytime and fine cuisine in the evenings.
